Create a project

Sign up, verify your email, and add your first website in three short onboarding steps.

A project is one website in Muro. Each project has its own tracking snippet, dashboard, insights, goals, and daily digest. This page walks you through signing up and creating your first one.

Go to app.muroanalytics.com/signup and fill in:

  • Full name
  • Work email
  • Password, at least 8 characters

Click Create account. Muro signs you up with email and password. There's no credit card step: every account starts with a 30-day free trial.

Verify your email

Muro sends a verification link to the address you signed up with. Click it and you're signed in automatically.

The link is valid for 24 hours. If it has expired, or the email never arrived, the Check your inbox page has a Resend verification email button. An expired link shows Send new link instead.

Tell Muro about your site

The first onboarding screen asks Where are you adding Muro?

  • Project name. Anything you'll recognize, like "My Site". You can rename it later.
  • Domain. Your site's domain, like yourapp.com. If you paste a full URL, Muro strips the https:// and the path. The domain has to exist in public DNS, so a made-up or internal hostname is rejected with "This domain does not exist."
  • Timezone. Muro picks up your browser's timezone. It decides when your daily digest arrives (8 AM in this timezone) and how days and hours are split on your dashboard.

Click Continue →.

Add the snippet to your site

The second screen, Add this snippet to your site, shows your tracking snippet with your project ID filled in:

<script async src="https://api.muroanalytics.com/muro.js" data-project-id="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"></script>

Paste it inside the <head> of your site, before the closing </head> tag. You have three options on this screen:

  • Copy snippet copies the script tag. See the install guides for where it goes on your platform.
  • Copy AI install prompt copies instructions you can paste into an AI coding assistant, which adds the snippet for you. See Install with AI.
  • On Shopify? Use the Shopify setup takes you to the Shopify checklist, which also adds the Muro pixel for carts, checkouts, and purchases. See Shopify.

While you install, the screen shows Waiting for first event…. As soon as your site sends its first pageview, it switches to Data received! and moves on by itself.

If someone else is installing the script, click I'll do this later →. You can copy the snippet again any time from Settings → Project → Tracking script.

You're in

The last screen confirms you're set up. Click Go to Dashboard → to open your project.

If you were invited to someone else's project, you skip onboarding. After you verify your email and accept the invitation, you go straight to that project. See Team members.

Add more projects

You can track as many websites as you like on every plan. To add another:

  • Open the project switcher in the top navigation and choose New project, or
  • Click the Add project card on the Overview page.

Fill in the project name, domain, and timezone, then click Create project. Muro shows the new snippet with Copy script and Copy AI install prompt buttons. Click Go to Dashboard when you're done.

Use one project per website. Each subdomain keeps its own visitors and sessions, so app.yourapp.com and yourapp.com are easiest to read as separate projects. See Subdomains.

Set the right timezone

If a project's timezone is UTC, Muro shows a banner: "Your project timezone is set to UTC." Change it in Settings → Project so your digest arrives at 8 AM your time and "today" on the dashboard means your today.

Forgot your password?

On the sign-in page, click Forgot password? and enter your email. Muro emails you a reset link that's valid for 1 hour. Once you're signed in, you stay signed in for 7 days.

Verify it works

  1. Open your dashboard and set the time range to Live.
  2. Visit your site in another tab.
  3. Your visit appears within about 30 seconds.

You can also open your browser's DevTools, go to the Network tab, filter by collect, and reload your site. You should see a POST to cdn.muroanalytics.com/collect with status 202.
