Get started in 3 steps

Install the tracking script, set up your first goal, and start reading insights.

This page takes you from a new account to useful answers. If you don't have an account yet, create a project first. It takes about two minutes.

Install the tracking script

Add this line inside the <head> of every page on your site:

<script async src="https://api.muroanalytics.com/muro.js" data-project-id="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"></script>

Replace YOUR_PROJECT_ID with your project's ID. You can copy the snippet with your ID already filled in from Settings → Project → Tracking script.

The script is under 2 KB gzipped and loads asynchronously, so it doesn't slow your pages down. Pageviews, sessions, referrers, UTM tags, devices, and locations are tracked from the moment it loads.

Pick the guide for your site:

To check it works, open your dashboard, set the time range to Live, and visit your site in another tab. Your visit shows up within about 30 seconds.

Set up a goal

A goal tells Muro what success looks like: reaching a thank-you page, finishing a signup, starting a checkout. Once you have one, the dashboard shows Conversions and Conv. Rate, and insights can tell you how many conversions are at stake.

The quickest way: open the Pages panel on your dashboard, hover the page that means success (like /thank-you), and click Mark as goal. Goals count your existing traffic too, so you see numbers straight away.

For signups, purchases, and button clicks, send a custom event and make that the goal.

Read your insights

Open Insights in the top navigation. Muro checks your data every hour and posts a card when something changes: a traffic source surging, a drop against a normal day, a milestone, or tracking that has stopped.

Each card explains what changed, shows the evidence, and lists next steps. Mark it Done when you've dealt with it, or Snooze it for later. The top 3 also appear at the top of your dashboard.

Some insights need a little history first. For example, Muro compares traffic against normal days only after a couple of weeks of data. New projects see a "first visitors" card early on.
