Filter your data

Click any row on your dashboard to narrow every panel to those visitors, and stack filters to dig deeper.

Filters let you ask focused questions, like "What do visitors from Product Hunt read?" or "Do mobile visitors from Germany reach checkout?". On the dashboard, every row is a filter: click it, and the whole dashboard updates to show only that slice.

Add a filter

Click any row in these panels:

  • Top Referrers
  • Pages, on the Top, Entry, or Exit tab
  • UTM Breakdown
  • Technology, on the Devices, Browsers, or OS tab
  • Locations, on the Country, Region, or City tab
  • Goals

The filter appears as a pill above the dashboard, like Country: Germany ✕. The KPI cards, the chart, and the other panels all update to match. Rows in View all lists work the same way.

To remove a filter, click the ✕ on its pill, or click the same row again.

Stack filters

Add filters from different panels to combine them. Muro shows only the data that matches all of them. For example, click news.ycombinator.com in Top Referrers, then Mobile in Technology, to see mobile visitors from Hacker News.

Each dimension holds one value at a time. If you're filtering by Country: Germany and click France, the filter switches to France. It doesn't show both.

With two or more filters, a Clear all link appears next to the pills.

Clicking a UTM Breakdown row adds a filter for each tag the row has, so one click can add UTM Source, UTM Medium, and UTM Campaign together.

Referrer, UTM, Technology, and Locations filters use first touch: each visitor is counted by their first visit in the period. Filtering by a referrer with 120 visitors gives you exactly those 120 visitors. See Use UTM parameters for more on first touch.

Filter by a goal

Click a goal in the Goals panel to see only the sessions that reached it. This is the quickest way to compare people who convert with everyone else: which pages they read, where they came from, which devices they use.

To filter by a custom event, make it a goal first. See Set up goals.

Share a filtered view

Filters are saved in the page URL, so you can bookmark a filtered view or send the link to a teammate with access to the project. The link carries the filters, not the time range: whoever opens it starts on Past 7 Days and can pick the range from there.

Switching to another project clears your filters.

Drill into a time bucket

Click a bar or point on the chart to zoom the dashboard into that bucket. For example, click Tuesday on a week view to see only Tuesday. A Drill-down · Viewing … chip appears with the bucket you're looking at.

Click ✕ on the chip to go back to the range you were on. Filters stay in place while you drill down.

Time ranges

The time picker sits above the dashboard. It has ranges from Live to All Time, plus Custom for exact dates and times. Use the ‹ and › arrows to step back or forward one period, for example from Today to Yesterday. All ranges use your project's timezone.

While the picker is open, you can press a key to jump to a range:

See Your dashboard for what each panel shows.

What filters don't change

  • Revenue. The Shopify Revenue panel always shows all orders in the period. When filters are on, it says "Filters don't apply to revenue."
  • Top insights. The insights strip at the top of the dashboard, and the Insights page, always cover your whole site.
  • Your data. Filters only change what you see. Nothing is deleted or excluded from tracking.

The Sessions page has its own filters, including Page, Referrer, Country, Device, the UTM fields, and Goal.

Verify it works

  1. Open your dashboard and click a country in the Locations panel.
  2. A pill like Country: Germany ✕ appears, and the Visitors card shows the same number as that country's row.
  3. Click the pill's ✕ to go back to all visitors.
