Install Muro on a plain HTML site

Add the Muro snippet to a static HTML site, or to any site builder with a head code field.

Use this guide for hand-written HTML, static site generators, and site builders that let you paste code into the <head>, such as Carrd, Squarespace, Wix and Ghost.

Steps

Copy your snippet

In Muro, go to Settings → Project → Tracking script and click Copy script. Your project ID is already filled in:

<script async src="https://api.muroanalytics.com/muro.js" data-project-id="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"></script>

Paste it into the head of every page

Paste the snippet inside <head>:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8" />
    <title>Your site</title>
    <script async src="https://api.muroanalytics.com/muro.js" data-project-id="YOUR_PROJECT_ID"></script>
  </head>
  <body>
    ...
  </body>
</html>

If your pages share a header include or base template, paste it there once. Otherwise, add it to every HTML file you want tracked.

On a site builder, paste it into the site-wide head field instead:

  • Carrd: Settings → Embed → Head.
  • Squarespace: Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Header.
  • Wix: Settings → Custom Code → Add Custom Code, place it in Head and apply it to All pages.
  • Ghost: Settings → Code injection → Site header.

If your platform isn't listed, look for a setting called "head code", "custom code", "code injection" or "tracking code".

Publish

Upload the changed files or publish your site. Builder preview modes often don't run custom code, so test on the live URL.

Verify it works

  1. Open your live site.
  2. Open DevTools, go to the Network tab, filter by collect and reload. You should see a POST to cdn.muroanalytics.com/collect with status 202.
  3. Or, in Muro, set the time picker to Live. Your visit appears within about 30 seconds.

Good to know

  • Add it once per page. Two copies of the snippet on one page count every pageview twice.
  • Some builders put custom code behind a paid plan. If the head field is missing or greyed out, check your builder's plan.
  • Content Security Policy. If your host sets a CSP, allow https://api.muroanalytics.com in script-src and https://cdn.muroanalytics.com in connect-src. See Fix Content Security Policy errors.
