Events are paused
The four reasons Muro stops storing new events, how to tell which one applies, and how to resume.
Muro pauses collection in four situations: your trial ended, a payment failed, you reached your pageview limit, or tracking was switched off for a project. In every case your existing data is safe and the dashboard keeps working. Only new events stop being stored. This page shows how to tell which one you're in and how to get going again.
Events sent while collection is paused aren't stored and can't be recovered later. Resuming quickly keeps the gap small. You never need to reinstall the snippet.
Which one is it?
| What you see | Cause | collect response |
|---|---|---|
| Red banner: "Your free trial has ended." | Trial ended | 202, but not stored |
| Red banner: "Your last payment failed. New events are paused." | Payment failed | 202, but not stored |
| Billing shows 100% of Monthly pageviews used | Pageview limit reached | 429 (PAGEVIEW_LIMIT_REACHED) |
| Overview shows the project as Paused | Tracking switched off | 404 (PROJECT_NOT_FOUND) |
The first three apply to every project you own. The last one applies to a single project.
On the goal and Shopify screens, Muro also explains the pause. For example: "Tracking is paused because this project's monthly pageview limit was reached. Goals will start recording when tracking resumes."
Your trial ended
What it looks like:
- A banner across the dashboard: "Your free trial has ended. Upgrade now → to continue using Muro." It can't be dismissed.
- Billing shows Trial ended: "New events are paused and your historical data is safe. Subscribe to resume event collection."
- You received "Your Muro Analytics trial has ended".
How to resume:
Open Billing
Click Upgrade now → in the banner, or open the user menu → Billing.
Choose a plan
Under Choose a plan to continue, pick your monthly pageviews, Monthly or Annual, and click Subscribe on Starter or Team.
Pay
Complete checkout. Collection resumes as soon as the subscription is active.
A cancelled subscription works the same way once the cancellation takes effect. Billing shows Subscription cancelled, and you resume by choosing a plan.
A payment failed
A failed renewal happens in two stages.
1. On hold, still collecting. You get "Action needed: your Muro Analytics payment didn't go through", and Billing shows "Payment pending — your subscription is temporarily on hold. We'll retry automatically." Events are still collected while the payment is retried. Update your card now through Billing → Manage subscription to avoid any interruption.
2. Failed, paused. If the retries don't succeed:
- A banner reads "Your last payment failed. New events are paused. Update billing details →". It can't be dismissed.
- Billing shows Subscription payment failed.
- New events aren't stored. Project members lose access and your API key stops working.
How to resume: open Billing and choose a plan under Choose a plan to continue. Once you're subscribed again, collection resumes. If you're back on Team, your members get access again. Generate a new API key under Settings → API Keys if you use the Links API.
You reached your pageview limit
What it looks like:
- Billing shows the Monthly pageviews bar full, with "You've used 100% of your monthly pageviews. Upgrade your plan to avoid dropping events."
- You received "You've hit your pageview limit".
- Requests to
collectreturn429with the codePAGEVIEW_LIMIT_REACHED. For up to an hour after you reach the limit, they can still return202without being stored. - Insights pause until collection resumes.
All new events stop, including custom events, for every project you own.
How to resume: either wait for your next billing period, when the count resets and collection restarts by itself, or raise your limit now:
Open Billing
User menu → Billing.
Upgrade
Under Change plan, move the slider to a larger volume and click Upgrade.
Confirm
Check the prorated Charged today amount and click Confirm & pay. Collection resumes within about an hour.
See Pageview limits.
Tracking is switched off
Someone turned off Settings → Project → Tracking active for this project.
What it looks like:
- Overview shows the project as Paused.
- Requests to
collectfor this project return404with the codePROJECT_NOT_FOUND. - Other projects keep collecting normally.
How to resume:
Open project settings
Select the project in the project switcher, then open Settings → Project. Only the project owner can change this.
Turn tracking back on
Switch Tracking active on. It takes effect within a minute or two.
Verify it works
- The banner is gone, or Overview shows the project as Active.
- On your site, DevTools → Network, filtered to
collect, shows requests with status202. - With the dashboard on Live, a new visit appears within a minute or so.

muro is not defined
Fix errors like "muro is not defined" or "Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'track')" when sending custom events.
Numbers differ from another tool
Why Muro's visitors, sessions and pageviews won't match Google Analytics, Plausible or your server logs exactly, and when a gap is worth investigating.
