Pageview limits

What counts toward your monthly pageview limit, how to watch your usage, and what happens when you reach it.

Each paid plan includes a number of pageviews per billing period. This page explains what counts, where to see your usage, and what happens when you hit the limit, so you can upgrade before you lose any data.

What counts

Only pageviews count toward the limit: the pageview event sent when a page loads and on each single-page-app navigation.

These don't count:

  • Custom events, from window.muro.track() or data-muro-event clicks.
  • session_end events, which the script sends once per session to measure session length.
  • Muro Links clicks.
  • Shopify orders.

The limit applies to your whole account. Pageviews from every project you own are added together. Projects other people have shared with you count toward their owner's limit, not yours.

Check your usage

Open the user menu → Billing. The plan card shows a Monthly pageviews bar with your usage, for example 42,310 / 100,000, and the percentage used this period.

The bar turns amber at 80% and red at 95%. Billing also shows a banner at those points:

  • From 80%: "You've used 80% of your monthly pageviews."
  • From 95%: "You've used 95% of your monthly pageviews. Upgrade your plan to avoid dropping events."

The usage count updates throughout the day and can trail your live traffic by a few hours.

Email warnings

Muro emails you as you get close:

WhenSubject
80% used"You've used 80% of your pageviews"
95% used"Urgent: you've used 95% of your pageviews"
100% used"You've hit your pageview limit"

Each warning is sent once per billing period. The 100% email repeats once a day for up to three days while you're still over the limit.

What happens at 100%

When you reach your limit:

  • New events stop being stored for every project you own. This covers custom events too, not just pageviews.
  • Your history is safe. The dashboard keeps working and everything already collected stays.
  • Insights pause, so the pause isn't reported as "tracking stopped".
  • Shopify orders are still recorded, but they show as Unattributed because the visits that led to them weren't stored.

Traffic while you're over the limit isn't recorded later. Upgrading quickly keeps the gap small.

If you're checking in your browser's DevTools, requests to cdn.muroanalytics.com/collect return 429 with the code PAGEVIEW_LIMIT_REACHED once Muro's hourly check has caught up. Before that, they can still return 202 without being stored.

When it resets

Your count starts again from zero each time your billing period renews. On a monthly plan that's every month, on your renewal date. Lifetime plans get a fresh monthly allowance every month.

When the count resets, collection resumes on its own. You don't need to change anything on your site.

Raise your limit

Open Billing

User menu → Billing.

Pick a bigger volume

In Change plan, move the slider to a larger monthly pageview size. You can also switch plans or billing period at the same time.

Confirm the upgrade

Click Upgrade, check the prorated Charged today amount and the New monthly limit, then click Confirm & pay.

The new limit applies straight away. Collection resumes within about an hour.

Trials have no cap

During the 30-day free trial there's no pageview limit. Billing doesn't show a usage bar until you're on a paid plan. Use the trial to see how much traffic your sites get, then pick a volume that leaves some headroom.

Verify it works

After upgrading, open Billing and check that the usage bar shows your new limit. Then set the dashboard time range to Live and load your site in another tab. Your visit should appear within a minute or so.
