Tags and tag analytics

Group your short links with tags, filter by them, and see clicks across every link in a tag.

Tags group related links, such as every link for one launch, one channel or one client. You can filter the links table by tag and open a tag's own analytics to see how all its links perform together.

Click Create link, or choose Edit from a link's ⋯ menu.

Pick or create tags

In Tags, start typing. Pick an existing tag from the suggestions, or choose Create tag to make a new one with that name. Press Backspace in an empty box to remove the last tag.

Save

Click Create link or Save. New tags are created when you save, so a tag you add and remove before saving is never created.

Rules for tags:

  • Up to 10 tags per link.
  • Names are up to 50 characters and unique in your account, ignoring case: "Launch" and "launch" are the same tag.
  • Each new tag gets the next of six colours in turn: indigo, violet, cyan, fuchsia, lime and slate. You can change it later.

On Links, click Tags above the table and tick one or more tags under Filter by tag. The table shows links that carry any of the selected tags. A badge on the button shows how many tags are selected. Untick them to clear the filter.

Manage tags

Click Manage tags at the top of Links. For each tag you see its colour, its name and how many live links carry it.

  • Change the colour: click the colour dot. Each click moves to the next of the six colours.
  • Rename: click the tag name, type the new name, and press Enter (or Esc to cancel). The new name shows on every link that carries it.
  • View analytics: click the chart icon.
  • Delete: click the trash icon, then Delete to confirm. The tag is removed from every link that carries it. The links themselves aren't affected.

Tag analytics

A tag's analytics page adds up clicks on every live link that carries the tag. Open it from Manage tags (chart icon) or by clicking a tag in the Top Tags panel on Links.

  • Clicks: clicks across the tag's links in the selected period, with the change against the previous period. This is the charted metric.
  • Links: how many live links carry the tag.
  • Top Referrer: the site that sent the most clicks.
  • Locations (Country, Region, City), Devices (Device, Browser, OS) and Referrers panels.

Things to know:

  • Charts use UTC days and hours, like the rest of Muro Links.
  • A click on a link with two tags counts toward both tags. Totals across tags, as in the Top Tags panel, can add up to more than your total clicks.
  • When you delete a link, its clicks stop counting toward its tags.
  • A tag with no links shows zero clicks rather than an error.

Limits

You can have up to 25 tags on Starter and 200 on the Team plan or a trial. Tags created from the link form count toward the same limit. See Plans.

Verify it works

  1. Add a tag to two links and click each short link once.
  2. Open Manage tags: the tag shows 2 links.
  3. Click its chart icon. The tag's Clicks shows both clicks.
